Since 1993, the SAMS has been supporting projects in neurological sciences with resources from the Théodore Ott Fund, physician and Professor of Neurology in Lausanne (1909 – 1991). In accordance with the wishes of the donor, grants supported by the Théodore Ott Fund are primarily intended for young scientists or research groups who want to carry out a research project at a Swiss higher education institution.
After a few years’ interruption due to the unfavourable stock market situation, returns from the Théodore Ott Fund were again sufficient to launch a call for proposals. In 2018, a total of CHF 200’000.– has been made available to support research. A call for proposals is now scheduled every two years, provided that dividend yields are sufficient.
Domains and place of research
With grants from the Théodore Ott Fund, the SAMS supports research projects in clinical or translational neurology. In accordance with the donor's will, projects must be carried out at a Swiss institution of higher education. Short research stays abroad are possible during the grant period to strengthen international cooperation.

- scientific quality and originality of the project
- feasibility and methodology of the project
- main applicant’s scientific track record and expertise for the proposed project
- potential impact of the project for clinical or translational neurology
