Medical humanities – a group of disciplines drawn from the human and social sciences, as well as the visual arts and literature – shed new light on medical science and practice. They offer a complementary, critical, contextualised and reflective approach, enabling a better understanding of medicine as a social and behavioural science.

From the early 2000s, the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAHS) and the SAMS have brought together scientists interested in the medical humanities. Through numerous events and publications, they have helped to establish a fruitful dialogue between experts in human, social and medical sciences, with the aim of enriching our understanding of illness and health and promoting reflection on how to address the health challenges arising from societal developments.

Documents relating to the conferences are available in German and in French.
